Eternal or Ephemeral?
What makes a place holy? Does holiness come from God or from people? Does it last forever or does it disappear? From some of the earliest conceptions of the holiness of land in the Jewish canon, R. Richman traces how they developed in the Talmud and its reception, carving out various pathways of how to relate to the holiness of the land of Israel and what is at stake in each, especially when living far away from the land.
