Do We Really Think Monotheists Believe in the Same God?

It is clear from the Torah that Avodah Zarah (foreign or forbidden worship) is anathema to the monotheism of Jewish tradition. In all kinds of ways, Jewish law restricts Jews' activities interacting with these idolaters and their idolatrous paraphernalia. But how are we supposed to think of other religions that seem to us monotheistic? And how do these theological questions interact with social and economic questions of inter-religious dialogue and cooperation? Is a claim of shared monotheism sufficient to ground a sense of overlapping religious purpose?
