Yom HaZikaron-Yom Ha'Atzmaut
One of the contenders for the national anthem for the nascent Jewish State was the 126th Psalm, Shir HaMa’alot. The entire Psalm is moving and captivating, but I’d like to focus on the imagery of the very first verse: "A Song of Ascents. When God restores Zion, we will be like dreamers." I want to ask the most basic question the reader of a poem can ask: What does it mean? What does it mean to say that we will be like dreamers? (5777)
