Overview

Villains: Characters the Rabbis Love to Hate

The Beit Midrash has for centuries been one of the spiritual and intellectual centers of Jewish life. It is the place our people have gathered together to pore over sacred texts, debate their meaning and application, and emerge with wisdom to guide Jewish living.

From February through May, on the second Thursday of the month, join us at Congregation Beth Sholom to study some of the wildest stories in rabbinic literature, and to learn the art of classical Beit Midrash study. Each session will focus on a new midrashic villain. We'll start with a brief introduction, break out into havruta, and then return to a full group discussion.

All sessions are free and open to the community. Join us for all 4 sessions, or drop in to one!

Thursday, February 8 with Rabbi David Kasher: Villains in the Garden of Eden
Thursday, March 14 with Rabbi Dorothy Richman: Villains of Shushan
Thursday, April 11 with Rabbi David Kasher: Villains in Pharaoh’s Court
Thursday, May 9 with Rabbi Dorothy Richman: Villains in the Kingdom of Israel

This program is presented in partnership with Congregation Beth Sholom.
